Recharge the battery of your cell phone with salt and water

No longer will it be a problem having to find a power source to recharge the cell phone battery. The Swedish company myFC developed a charger for mobile phones that uses a unique type of fuel: water and salt. This small device, about the size of a wallet, will try to position itself as an indispensable accessory that will facilitate the handling of mobile phones.  That is how one of its inventors sustains it: «Our device is intended for users who want to be independent of the grid while moving to a place where they can recharge the battery».

The JAQ model, as it will be known, produces electricity without having to connect to a conventional power grid. Its energy source comes from a tiny tank which transforms the salt and water into hydrogen.

Similar to a credit card, the JAQ model generates power immediately and after two hours it manages to recharge the battery completely. The card is discarded once the fuel is consumed and the recharge completed.

The company wants to massify this device and turn it into an article easily accessible to all audiences. Initially it will be released in late 2015 in some stores in Sweden, Germany, Japan, France and USA, and its cost is estimated in around $ 100.

Once again water is the answer in the search for sustainable alternatives. In a world with a growing population, any option that accomplishes energy savings is essential and it contributes to the task of creating awareness. Technology advances in the research of new solutions that allow us to overcome the dependence on conventional energy sources. It is our job to make water a priority; and to value it for what it is should stand as our most urgent planetary mission.
