Al oeste de Chile se despliega la piscina más grande e imponente del mundo. Superando siete veces las medidas de la que le sigue en tamaño, esta piscina que más parece una laguna es propiedad del complejo residencial de San Alfonso del Mar, ubicado en Algarrobo, a 90 kilómetros de la capital.
Entre el mar y los más de mil apartamentos se interpone la obra acuática más ambiciosa que ha fabricado el ingenio humano. Con un kilómetro de largo y 35 metros de profundidad, la piscina construida en un lapso de cinco años por la empresa chilena Crystal Lagoons figura en el registro de los Guinness Records por tener un tamaño que excede a una veintena de piscinas olímpicas y por contener más de 250 millones de litros de agua.
Inaugurado en 1988, este resort se compone de una docena de lujosos edificios orientados hacia las costas del océano Pacífico. Cada edificio cuenta con playa privada y embarcadero. Hablamos de una piscina tan descomunal, que es posible practicar actividades náuticas como buceo, windsurf y velero, además de contar con el acuario más grande del país.
Aunque las aguas marinas llenan la descomunal cavidad, el color de la piscina tiene un aspecto claro y cristalino y la temperatura es 9°C más alta que el agua de mar. Esto se debe a un procedimiento único en el mundo llamado oxigenación a presión. El sistema bombea agua del océano en grandes cantidades y satura el oxígeno, usando cien veces menos productos químicos que los demás procesos tradicionales.
Surgen otros proyectos de crear lagunas inverosímiles en panoramas inhóspitos. En Egipto se planea fabricar una piscina que supere todas las dimensiones. No conforme con desviar ríos y explotar lagunas, el humano pretende inventar otros paisajes aunque tenga que ingeniárselas para llenar con agua los desiertos.
The largest pool in the world
In the west of Chile the largest and most stunning pool in the world is located. Other projects arise to create implausible lagoons in inhospitable landscapes. In Egypt there are plans to build a pool that exceeds all dimensions, even Chile’s. Not satisfied with diverting rivers and exploiting loopholes, humans aim to create or reshape landscapes even if they have to fill deserts with water.
